Wossman High School is located on the south side of the city of Monroe. Named after Miss Julia Wossman, a renowned northeast Louisiana educator and former elementary school principal, Wossman High School began in the fall of 1966 as a small, all-white high school, progressing over the years to a much larger school for all students on the south side of Monroe. The Wildcat was selected to symbolize the fierce competitiveness of the student body, and the Wildcat’s ferocity at Wossman has become a living tradition. Purple and gold were chosen as the school colors. Under the current leadership team of Principal Sam L. Moore, III, Assistant Principal Barry Jones, Dean of Students George Belton, and Accountability Specialist Rose Lee, the school continues to progress both academically and athletically. In spite of the many changes in leadership and student population, school pride remains steadfast.
